Complete Process of Australia Awards Scholarships 2024

Australia Awards Scholarships are like big scholarships given out by the Australian government. They’re meant to help countries that Australia works closely with by providing education and training to people from those countries.

These scholarships let folks from developing countries, especially those in the Indo-Pacific area, go to Australian universities or technical schools (called TAFEs) full-time for either bachelor’s or master’s degrees.

The idea is that by studying in Australia, people can learn new skills and gain knowledge to help make positive changes back in their home countries. So, these scholarships aim to develop leaders who can make a difference in their own communities.

Benefits of Australia Awards Scholarships

Australia Awards Scholarships are given for the time needed to finish the academic program chosen by the Australian university. They include:

  1. Full payment of tuition fees.
  2. A single round-trip economy class flight to and from Australia.
  3. A one-time allowance to help with starting expenses like accommodation, textbooks, and study materials.
  4. Regular payments to cover basic living expenses.
  5. A compulsory program before starting studies to learn about living and studying in Australia.
  6. Health insurance for the duration of the scholarship, covering basic medical costs (except for pre-existing conditions).
  7. If necessary, support for English language training before starting the main course, both in the student’s home country and in Australia.
  8. Additional academic support to help scholars succeed in their studies or enhance their academic experience.
  9. For students doing research or coursework with a research component that requires fieldwork, funding for one round-trip economy class flight to their home country or within Australia.

Conditions of Australia Awards Scholarships

People who want to accept an Australia Awards Scholarship must sign a contract with the Australian government. In this contract, they promise to follow the rules of the scholarship.

After finishing their studies, scholars must leave Australia and stay away for at least two years. If they don’t, they’ll have to pay back all the money spent on their scholarship.

Country details:

1. Before you apply

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Check Dates: Find out when applications open and close for your country. Choose your country of citizenship or residency from the list of eligible nations to get specific details on eligibility, priority areas, and application procedures. Visit the participating countries page for exact opening and closing dates.
  2. Review Policy Handbook: Before applying, make sure to thoroughly read the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook [PDF]. This handbook covers important details such as eligibility criteria, selection processes, entitlements, and responsibilities. Keep in mind that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade may update the handbook without prior notice.
  3. Application Methods: Depending on your country, you may have the option to apply online or through hard-copy applications. Refer to your country’s profile for specific instructions on the application process.

Make sure to follow these steps carefully to ensure your application is complete and submitted on time.

2. Applying online

Please refer to your country’s profile to find the link to the application portal. Please note that for Indonesia and the Philippines, the Online Australia Scholarships Information System (OASIS) is not used. Instead, you can find the application link in their respective country profiles.

You don’t have to submit your application right away. You can create a draft application form and update it, along with your supporting documents, until the closing date specified in your country’s profile.

Once you submit your application, you can’t make any changes. We recommend that applicants applying online do so well before the closing date. OASIS often experiences high usage in the days leading up to the deadline, which may cause delays.

If you need assistance, refer to the Applicant’s Online User Manual.

3. Supporting documentation

Please review your participating country profile to determine if additional supporting documents are required, such as referee reports. Below are templates for referee reports:
