The Resurgence of Terrorism in Pakistan
The Resurgence of Terrorism
The article “The Resurgence of Terrorism” encompasses the ongoing violent activities of the so called notorious TTP that has once again spread the waves of terror.
For the last couple of weeks , a resurgence in terrorism across the country has been observed. Dozens of soldiers of Pakistan army and civilian law enforcement agencies (CLAs) have lost their lives in the ongoing terror attacks. Even the capital Islamabad is not seen to be secured, the governments of several countries including the UK, the US and Saudi Arabia advised their citizens to avoid go to five star hotels in the federal capital.
A few days ago the terrorist from the banned outfit Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), had captured the counter terrorism department (CTD) compound in Bannu area of North West Frontier province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and subsequently made hostage all the staff of the compound. The security forces after failed attempt to pursued them to surrender before the law, had resorted to kill all the 15 terrorists and freed the compound. Moreover, a reports is seen to be circulated on media that includes terrorists attack on police station in North Waziristan as well as attacks in police van in several parts of the country particularly in KPK.
Similarly, after Taliban take over in Kabul, the situation on Durand line between Pakistan and Afghanistan deteriorates with each passing day. Cross border firing between Pakistani soldiers and Afghan Taliban has been one of a routine phenomena especially in Spin Boldak Chaman border Baluchistan, where Taliban mostly targets the civilian population. Afghan Taliban has been pursuing the same footprints followed by their predecessors by not recognizing the Durand line as a legitimate border, instead consider it a bifurcation among the ethnic Pashtoon communities living on both side.
Nevertheless, Pakistan needs to revise its strategy towards eradicating terrorism. For that purpose, she needs to implement National Internal Security Policy of 2018-23 with full spirit that includes especially focusing on western border, capacity building of law enforcement agencies as well as documentation of the Afghan refugees. Moreover, she needs effective mechanism to implement Comprehensive Response Plan (CRP), with cultural level engagement with the regions having soft corner for miscreants as well as needs to effectively implement Composite Deterrence Plan (CDP) by mechanize 3Rs strategy and national de-radicalization programs, including Sabawoon, Rastoon and many more.
Furthermore, the revival of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) is needed to coordinate efforts of security forces and response collectively against terrorism. A national narrative is need to be built by religious scholars against the extremist ideologies by promoting the moderate and soft version of Islam in the extremist influenced regions.
In conclusion, terrorism in Pakistan remains a grave and complex challenge that has deeply impacted the nation’s social fabric, economic stability, and international reputation. The country has faced numerous acts of terrorism perpetrated by various extremist groups, leading to loss of innocent lives and hindering progress in multiple sectors. Addressing terrorism requires a multi-faceted approach that involves not only strong law enforcement measures but also comprehensive efforts to address root causes such as socio-economic disparities, political instability, and ideological extremism.
Pakistan has taken significant strides in its counter-terrorism efforts, collaborating with international partners and adopting policies to combat extremism effectively. However, continued vigilance and sustained commitment are essential to eradicating this menace entirely. Building resilient communities, promoting tolerance and inclusivity, and investing in education and socio-economic development are crucial steps in preventing the radicalization of vulnerable populations.
Moreover, regional cooperation is vital in the fight against terrorism, as terrorist groups often operate across borders. Pakistan needs to strengthen diplomatic ties with neighboring countries to curb cross-border terrorism and dismantle terrorist networks effectively.
By effectively addressing terrorism, Pakistan can not only improve the security situation within its borders but also enhance its image on the global stage, attracting foreign investment and fostering economic growth. The journey towards a terrorism-free society is undoubtedly challenging, but through collective determination, proactive measures, and a commitment to peace and stability, Pakistan can pave the way for a brighter and safer future for its citizens and the broader region.
